Art Basil is a, DIY, solarpunk art show, that ran for three years in Brooklyn, NY. The show took place among thousands of basil plants and basil-inspired paintings. The show uses permaculture techniques to grow the plants and make the compost they are grown in and fed by, and experimental watercolour techniques to create large scale watercolours (often 30ft x 15ft.) This project investigates how plants and the environment can be at the heart of art making - as biomimicry for the painting designs; as an edible, interactive component to the participants; and as a visual focal point during exhibitions.
